The movie which i am going to give out not only helped bring back the passion in my coaching but also prompted me to defend myself against a more enjoyable and holistic perspective in my way towards education. It motivated me to be creative and impressive in my strategy towards to coaching. It all started out in 2007 when after 23 years of teaching, I came across myself slipping into an abyss. Teaching had become for me personally a routine or a behavior. The flame of love for teaching was gradually flickering away. A multitude of questions like very small light bulbs started to flicker on / off in my head.
What has occurred to my enthusiasm for coaching?
Why is it so difficult to attain out to the students?
How should i make my students see the “overall picture”?
Why can’t I find the students to think for themselves?
Is it me or is it the students or could it be the curriculum or the complete education system?
At once, there was a growing need among educators to produce pondering students, to get students to think from the box, to avoid spoon feeding students and the overall feeling that the education system has become just too exam-oriented. I too began to think about what education designed for me and its own effect on my coaching. This estimate by Paul Hurd was constantly on my head, “Too many facts, too little conceptualizing, too much memorizing, and inadequate thinking. ” I thought that this is exactly what many teachers and students started out to think of education. The joy and journey of learning had become tiresome, dull, tense and unpleasant. Was this how learning was supposed to be perceived?
In my seek out answers, by chance I took place to watch this Television set movie entitled “The Triumph- A genuine history or The Ron Clark Story”. This movie not only motivated me but it rekindled the using love of what this means to be an educator. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of my students. I needed to teach them how to learn, enjoy learning and become life- long learners. A extra tall order I noticed but if Ron Clark could achieve it than so could I.
Ron Clark was voted in 2000 as Disney American teacher of the Year. He is also the creator of the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, United States. His highly effective and innovative teaching methods and curriculum garnered national attention and an invitation to the white house to be honoured by the Chief executive of the United States.
The movie, The Triumph says of an inspiring tale of an innovative, energetic and passionate instructor who leaves his small hometown in NEW YORK to instruct in a notorious suburb called Harlem in New York. Ron Clark was employed as a 6th grade teacher for several students who have been unruly, rude, irresponsible, not determined and acquired no hope of graduating to senior high school. He had taken on the task of increasing the class results and helping these students pass the state assessment.
Through his ground-breaking class rules, highly innovative educating techniques and an undying devotion to his students, Ron Clark could encourage and push these 6th grade students towards their biggest potential. He had made a significant difference in the lives of these students. He thought in the concept that an educator is person who wears many ‘hats’. Besides being the source of knowledge for the students, an educator also courses, advices his students on moral and interpersonal issues. An educator helps build the personality and aides in his / her students’ frame of mind towards learning.
The story commences with a thought provoking landscape in his university in this hometown. While hanging around to be shown to his new category he notices a student position in a trash bin outside a class room. Curious he asks the university student why he is ranking in the garbage bin. The college student replies that the professor said, “I cannot learn so I should go out with the trash”. Then presents himself as Mr. Ron Clark and asks the guy his name. Within minutes Ron Clark pretends to forget his own name and asks the son, ‘Sorry, I am so forgetful, would you please tell me my name”, and the learner replies, “Mr. Ron Clark”. Ron Clark then tells him, “See you just learnt something” and he calls for the boy out of the trash bin.
Two important prices came to mind when I was viewing this arena.
It is the supreme skill of the tutor to awaken delight in creative manifestation and knowledge.
The teacher who is indeed wise, does not bid that you enter the home of his wisdom, but instead leads you to definitely the threshold of his mind.
What is significant in this show, is the fact Ron Clark is a professor who perceives what can be accomplished by a student, he sees the potential in the kid. As teachers aren’t we suppose to encourage and stimulate our students. Research has shown how the role of specific variations among learners has significantly added to learning and inspiration (Corno and Snow, 1986). Teachers need to keep in mind that learners’ process information in many different ways. Some learners learn in a series of reasonable steps from starting to end while some others prefer to begin with a synopsis at first and then fill up it along with the facts. Therefore as teachers our main responsibility is to encourage, encourage, and serve as facilitators in the learning process. Ron Clark by demonstrating the college student that he can learn and has learnt resulted in motivating the university student to want to learn. That is seen when he eagerly asks Ron Clark if he was going to be their tutor.
I would like to offer here what Yero, Judith (2002) reported, that important education will continue steadily to elude educators until they understand how teacher thinking profoundly influences what occurs in the class room. Exactly why is it that one teacher perceives students as “disruptive” while another perceives that same pupil as some with “potential”? Ron Clark believes that every student with the right strategy and encouragement can be taught.
On his first trip to the Inner-city primary institution in Harlem, New York, he was warned by the Principal that this quality 6 school was the least disciplined group. He endures the rudeness of the category and tries to learn the students better by visiting them at home. It is merely then that he realizes that these students don’t get the attention and importance from their family. Then creates the family feeling in the school room by creating distinctive rules in his school room and uses creative and ground breaking teaching methods fitted to his students. He does not believe one kind of teaching method suits all.
Ron Clark pieces out to build a rapport with his students by playing with them and instructing the weaker students in his spare time. He creates thrilling challenges to promote discipline and good analysis practices among his students. In addition he constantly is applicable different teaching ways to instill learning. When he’s identified as having pneumonia and was encouraged by the doctors to remain home, Ron Clark training video tapes his lesson. This is to ensure that the students aren’t behind for the evaluation. By the end everyone was surprised with the category performance. One college student Shameika Wallace even acquired a perfect score. Ron Clark used what Alfred Adler, the founder of Individual mindset said about teachers. Educators must believe in the potential of his pupil, and he must use all his art work in seeking to bring his pupils to see this electric power.
Ron Clark commitment and perseverance as an educator paid off in the long run. It also made me recognize that to be an educator is a career. It is a dialling for selflessness, steadfastness, tenacity, creative imagination and the love for knowledge. Ron Clark’s interest and frame of mind for coaching was exemplary. His love and faith in his students was amazing. The movie showed us that he was never tired of checking out new teaching ways to help his course learn and understanding information they need. He’s also constantly stimulating them to dream big fantasy and have confidence in themselves. There is a picture in the movie when Ron Clark clarifies to the principal that the condition is not in the kids. It’s not even what they can perform. The issue is what you expect them to attain. You are preparing the club here. Why? Set it up here! They can take action.
According to Andy Hargreaves and Michael Fullan (2002), it is what instructors think, what instructors consider and what instructors do at the amount of the class room that ultimately patterns the kind of learning that young people get.
Another world in the movie that received me to reflect on my beliefs as an educator as well as my classroom management style was this dialogue between Ron Clark and his students.

Listening and reflecting on this dialogue helped me realize that if we are not careful, students will only think of education as taking testing. These students will never be influenced with a love for learning and for that reason as teachers we fail to instill lifelong learning skills in them. Monthly bill Beattie, a tutor and trainer says that the purpose of education ought to be to teach us somewhat how to think, than what to think – rather to boost our minds, to be able to enable us to believe for ourselves, than to fill the storage area with thoughts of other men.
While Eric Hoffer says that the central job of education is to implant a will and facility for learning, it will produce not learned but learning people. At this time I questioned my role as an educator, how can I be an educator which makes a difference in the lives of my students. I had been determined to make a difference as an educator, no subject how small the difference it experienced to start with me. I wanted to put back the interest in my own classrooms, research has shown that if the students are happy to maintain the classroom, they will do much better.
